Student Safety- 2025 Summer Programme
We know parents trust us with their sons and daughter’s safety away from home. We recognise this privilege, so we place student welfare and safety as number one on our priority list. Find out more about how we promote welfare and safety on our summer courses here.
Creating a safe base for transformation
We believe in building a safe centre from which students can thrive – for transformational growth!
As a team, from friendly Counsellors to our Senior Leadership Team, we incorporate effective methods to ensure students feel safe to really thrive on our Summer Program. Backed by rigorous policies and procedures, we strive to promote independence in a secure way. We ensure that our students always have access to a member of staff and supervise our students from the moment they arrive to the moment they depart. This provides complete end-to-end support.
There for our students, day or night
24/7 supervision, Counsellors who care, and a Senior Leadership Team on the ground. We are there for our students – day and night.
Our trained team – led by our Welfare specialist
We know that strong leadership can help promote safety. So, we created a position for a Program Director with a specific Welfare role – to shape the student experience, safety and lead on welfare.
Complementing this, all of our staff must pass legal background checks to work with us, and we have a Welfare Director in charge of student safety throughout the summer period. Staff are available who are trained in First Aid.
Safer arrivals, transfers between cities, and departures
- Free airport transfer (within set times/airport)
- Counsellors at accommodation
- Regular Check-ins
- Restricted rooms: male versus female
Led by rigorous policies and procedures, our team is clear on safety and welfare being a number one priority. Here are a few ways we help to keep students safe:-
Airport and inter-city transfers
We include a free airport transfer for students (you just need to make sure they arrive and depart within a certain time window and choose London Heathrow). We strongly recommend taking advantage of this free transfer to and from campus – students get their first chance to meet one another and are met by CISS International staff. As our courses include two cities in three weeks, we provide transfers between cities alongside our team.
Our Counsellors and Team Supervision
As part of the course, Counsellors who remain on-site are available throughout nights for any concerns – or simply a chat! They stay in the same area as students, giving students a point of contact at all times. Our team will accompany students to breakfast and help them navigate to classes, activities and more! Counsellors are a friendly, familiar face. The whole team has a role in ensuring students are supervised throughout the summer school.
Check-ins, Code of Conduct and Lights Outs
All students agree to a code of conduct as well as rules and regulations. This includes meeting a strict curfew and lights out policy. We have regular check-in times, so that whenever students come back on site – such as after Free Time if parents give permission – they are required to check in with a Counsellor both before and after. With gender-restricted areas, we ensure separation by gender and lights out with students in their own rooms by 11pm.
Round-the-clock pastoral care
All students are given a contact number that they can call in case of emergency – for round-the-clock pastoral care.
Free time in friendly University Towns and Central Cities
- Check-ins before and after free time
- Emergency Phone Number
- Guidance for Visitation Sites of Interest
- Group Free Time Only
Our locations are well-known University Towns and central cities of Brighton, London, Cambridge known for being safe and populated with students. They offer an eclectic, friendly environment for students to have a thrilling and safe summer.
It’s up to you whether you wish for your child to have Free Time. This is a real privilege for students – and must be taken with that same sense of responsibility. We put safeguards such as 24/7 access to a staff member via a phone line should students need to use this. Counsellors meet with students before and at the end of Free Time as a check-in. This ensures that independent exploration of each reputable location is possible within established support.
Robust policies and procedures
We have clear and robust policies and procedures that centre around safeguarding – for an inspirational Summer.
Having established procedures and policies that are consistent and clear in their approach is a key part of how we establish a safe and enjoyable summer experience.
